For anyone wanting to understand cults and high-control groups, Margaret Singer’s Cults in Our Midst is an absolute must read.
I never paid close attention to cults in the media until the Nxivm case… This one caught my attention because it sounded like a self-development thing that could have appealed to me if I’d known about it and had money to burn…like, I would never have joined a flying saucer cult etc, but this one was supposedly about being more successful in life…to me, it didn’t “scream” cult right away…I started looking into it to try to learn how people “fell” for it, is it really a cult, is there really such a thing as brainwashing etc, does the media and judiciary have it all wrong about Nxivm etc. I was suspect of cult experts like Rick Ross and questioned their motivations since they made a living as “cult experts”.
But recently I discovered this old video from Ivy League prof Margaret Singer… After watching it, I am 100% certain that yes, Nxivm was absolutely a cult. And considering that Keith was a reasonably intelligent person, he knew exactly what he was doing.
The whole Nxivm setup was frighteningly paint-by-numbers cult. I can’t believe how much it sounds like this woman is describing the exact way Nxivm operated, well before it even existed.
